1986: Part science, part arts and drama geek, deciding what to do for A Level without much input from outside. Needing to write a mini-dissertation for English. Reading A Clockwork Orange, and fascinated by how quickly my brain assimilates Nadsat. A desire to write about it rebuffed by my teacher who considers it too complex a theme for O Level and forces me to focus on WW1 poetry. Language sticks in my head and I dump Physics and Chemistry for French and German. My world takes a literary and philosophical turn.
