1984(ish): A viewing of John Boorman’s Excalibur leading to a life-long love of Arthurian Legend, and studying an obscure course at University on Medieval poets. Eschenbach completes Chrétien de Troyes’ quest for the Grail in Parzival. I’m hooked. Fast forward to 2021, moving to Wales and starting to learn Cymraeg with the giddy ambition to read Culhwch ac Olwen at least in part in the original.
